Project Management
PRINCE2 Project Management methodology

However important or innovative the purpose or the idea, however much money you spent on buying the best software and/or equipment, however inspired or enthusiastic your human resource is, unless you ensure that you have an experienced Project Management resource in your team, your vision (the project) might not be fulfilled, might not be completed in time and/or on budget or might not even be completed at all!

At Ithaki Consulting we have always maintained the belief that projects do not just happen, but rather they need to be professionally managed to ensure on-budget, on-time, and to-approved-quality completion.  This can only happen by using a structured and proven Project Management methodology.

Structured project management means managing the project in a logical, organised way, following defined steps. A structured project management method is the written description of this logical, organised approach.

The Project Management services offered by Ithaki Consulting are according to the PRINCE2 Project Management Methodology.  PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a structured project management method for effective project management, focusing on delivering specified products to meet a specified business case.  The methodology covers the project life cycle, the management of the project and the management of the resources involved in carrying out the activities of the project.  The method contains a complete set of concepts (components and techniques) and project management processes that are the minimum requirements for a properly run and managed project.

PRINCE2 is based on the experiences of scores of project managers, who have contributed, some from their mistakes or omissions, others from their successes.  The method has been designed to be used on any type of project in any environment, tailoring the way the method is applied to suit the circumstances of a particular project.  PRINCE2 is the de facto standard used extensively by the UK and Cyprus government and is widely recognized and used in the public and private sector, both in the UK and internationally.  PRINCE2 has been designed to comply with the BS/EN/ISO9001 Quality Management Standard.

PRINCE2 Project Management Methodology says that the project should have:

  1. An organised and controlled start, i.e. organise and plan things properly before leaping in;

  2. An organised and controlled middle, i.e. when the project has started, make sure it continues to be organised and controlled;

  3. An organised and controlled end, i.e. when you've got what you want and the project has finished, tidy up the loose ends.

In order to describe what a project should do when, PRINCE2 has a series of processes which cover all the activities needed on a project from starting up to closing down.
